Why college is so important to me?

My name is Bill Shamblest, I am 17 years of age. My
parents didnÕt go to college and
are still struggling to make ends meet in the house. My
grandma just recently passed
away, but before she passed I made her a promise to not only
get a diploma but be the
first in the family to attend college. Her passing away
caused the family a financial
hardship with a large amount of hospital debts.
Even though my
family is financially disabled to pay for my college education, I am
determined to not let that effect me going to college to
further my education. The day
after Christmas my dad was laid off from his job of over 20
years.
My mom is
working two jobs trying to take care of her bills. My parents are separated
and IÕm living with my father, along with his wife, and my
one year old sister. My step
mom is unemployed right now and doesnÕt have a drivers
license.
I was employed
at Lubys and received my driver license at age 16. I am very
independent and well balanced. I never want to settle for
less. I want to make a difference
and end the illiteracy in my family. My expectations for my
future are high. I have
numerous goals that I want to accomplish. One short term
goal is to get my associates
degree in business before I am 20.
