Independent Living Program
Often the young men released from Youth Village and Medlock do not have an appropriate or healthy place to go. Many have no home and adoptions at their age rarely occur. For others, returning to a dysfunctional environment would be a setback. Adult half-way houses or existing shelters are reluctant to assume responsibility for these young men because of perceived behavioral problems.
The Youth Village Foundation recognizes a critical need in the Dallas community to provide these young men with a transitional facility while they become self-supporting or attend college.
This is a two to three year project to build or buy a facility in the Dallas area to house 20 to 30 young men at a time, and to provide the counseling staff necessary to assist them in the move into responsible adulthood.
